Maine's Acadia National Park features many rocky vistas, but my favorite is the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. This 33" x 23" oil painting on canvas shows the rugged scene with the red lighthouse lamp coming on in preparation for the coming darkness. The warm-colored sky compliments the deep blues and violets of the water. This composition draws you in with the rocks and clouds pointing toward the lighthouse.

This 16" x 20" acrylic painting on canvas shows the confluence of the Wikiva River with the St. Johns River in Central Florida, near the town of Orange City. Canoeing up the Wikiva from this point is a journey back to "Old Florida". Wading birds and croaking alligators are plentiful. The old-growth cypress trees and aquatic vegetation add a sense of mystery.

Tomoka State Park, near Ormond Beach, was the first State Park in Florida. It offers camping, boat ramps, canoeing and fishing as well as sugar mill ruins and sightseeing in this nature preserve. This scene with its distinctive cluster of palms, is readily recognized by drivers and bicyclists on the Tomoka Loop drive. This 24" x 48" acrylic painting captures the essence of the low-lying Florida coastal marshland.

This 8" x 10" acrylic painting on canvas shows the ubiquitous red mangroves that grow in Florida's estuaries and brackish waterways. The tenacious plants sprout from floating seedpods and stand up out of the water on stilt-like roots. They provide a good night time roost for various wading birds.

Hontoon Island State Park in Volusia County, Florida is accessible only by boat and offers hiking and cabins for rent, and an observation tower that gives a great tree-top view of the St. Johns River. This 10" x 12" acrylic painting on canvas shows Hontoon Island at sunset.

This 36" x 24" acrylic painting on canvas depicts Blue Spring State Park, near Orange City, Florida. Blue Spring is a winter refuge for the Florida Manatee, shown in the foreground. Swimmers enjoy the clear, cold water of the boil and river. The park offers canoe rentals, boardwalk trails and picnic shelters. My painting shows two young ladies taking a break from their swimming. The sparkling, emerald green water reveals large numbers of manatee during cold weather. They stay in the spring run to enjoy the constant 72 degree water.
